DIFFERENTIAL EFFECT OF PDGF AND IGF ON PROLIFERATION OF PERIODONTAL LIGAMENT CELLS AND GINGIVAL FIBROBLASTS

Abstract
-Abstract-
Development of periodontal tissues requires orchestration of several cell types. Two
cell types, gingival fibroblasts and periodontal ligament cells, were studied to compare
the effects of supplemental addition of PDGF, IGF-¥°, TGF-¥â, and EGF on
proliferation. Cells obtained from healthy human periodontal tissues were cultured on
10% FBS supplemented with growth factor alone, and combination in the concentration
of 10 ng/§¢. [3H]-Thymidine incorporation assay was measured after 24hrs.
The results are as follows ;
1. The combination of IGF with other growth factors showed a significantly greater
increase than IGF alone.
2. The combination of PDGF with other growth factors were not different from PDGF
alone.
3. The alone or combination of IGF and PDGF stimulated proliferation of gingival
fibrobalsts was significantly greater than periodontal ligament cells
